Mi spiegate questa formula ?

Potreste spiegarmi meglio il significato della formula finale di questo
brano preso da un libro di astronomia ? L'unica cosa che ho capito � che
trattasi di operazioni tra differenziali. Mi fate un esempio pratico della
sua applicazione ?

Let us assume we have some radiation passing through
a surface element dA (Fig. 4.1). Some of the radiation
will leave dA within a solid angle d?; the angle between
d? and the normal to the surface is denoted by ?. The
amount of energy with frequency in the range [?, ?+d?] entering this
